
Wilma Gene “Genie” Popp, 97, of Haven, died February 22, 2026, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born August 3, 1928, in Hutchinson, to Clarence A. and Donna M. (Sterling) Hodges.
Genie graduated from Hutchinson High School and went on to dedicate her life to her family and community. In addition to being a devoted farm wife and loving mother of four sons, she worked as a clerk at Haven Drug Store and later at the Medical Center pharmacy in Hutchinson, where she remained until her retirement. Genie had a gift for caring for others, serving as a caregiver for many people in their homes over the years. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cooking meals for those she loved, sewing for her family, and tending to her garden, especially her beautiful flowers.
On May 8, 1948, Genie married Harry A. Popp, in Hutchinson. They shared over 47 years of marriage before his passing on November 9, 1996.
She is survived by: her sons, Bill and Sondra Popp of Hutchinson, Dan Popp of Hutchinson, Chuck Popp of Haven, Kevin and Trasi Popp of Haven; grandchildren: Cameron Popp (Andrea Cordero), Megan Miller (Dustin), Sharon Swarts (Casey), Tonya Wolfe, Travis Popp, Kensie Popp; great-grandchildren, Noah Popp, Miriam Popp, Brody Miller, Whitney Miller, Justin Swarts, Elizabeth Swarts; many nieces and nephews.
Genie was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; sisters, Betty Burdick, Pauline Popp, Ila Phillips, Barbara Johnson; brothers, Jack Hodges, Ben Hodges; and daughter-in-law, Pam Popp.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Laurel Cemetery, 5395 E Greenfield Rd., Haven.
Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday - Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
