WHITESIDE, Kan.— With trains getting longer and rail traffic increasing in the area, Union Pacific is taking on a major renovation of their siding at Whiteside.
Work began on extending the siding earlier this summer and plans are to have it completed by the end of the summer. The work includes extending the siding by 1,500 feet including a new roadbed, track and a new bridge. It also includes upgraded signals.
With the extension, the siding will run from about 2,000 feet south of the Whiteside elevator to near Blanchard Street at the north end.
