
Michael Dean Hollowell, 66 passed away November 6, 2023.
Michael was born to Phyllis Elaine Gilmore Hollowell and Kenneth Allan Hollowell February 2, 1957 in Arkansas City, KS.
Michael grew up in Johnson City, TN. He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1975. Michael received his BBA at East Tennessee University, Cum Laude and his CPA credentials from the State of Tennessee. Michael was employed as the city’s accountant in Johnson City for several years. In 1982, he offered employment at his uncle, Ronald Johnson’s accounting firm, Johnson and Duncan, in Wichita, Ks. After 3 years Michael was made partner. The firm became Johnson, Duncan, and Hollowell. His son Matthew joined the firm in 2007. Michael has been helping people with their accounting services for 41 years.
Michael’s great joy in life was being with his family whether it was Sunday family dinners, visiting outside on his patio or deck, or gathered around the TV watching his beloved Tennessee Volunteer football team. He absolutely couldn’t wait for the first Vols game of each season. Michael was also an avid fan of the Wichita State Shockers and Kansas City Chiefs.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Kenneth Hollowell and Uncle, Ronald Johnson.
Michael is survived by his spouse of 40 years, Joyce Washburn Hollowell, son Matthew R. Hollowell (Anna Means Hollowell), one granddaughter, Alla M. Hollowell, siblings, David Hollowell (Sara) and Ron Hollowell (Fran). Plus, many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Michael’s wish was to not have any services, he will be cremated, and ashes buried in Joyce’s hometown of Caldwell, Kansas at the Caldwell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to American Diabetes Association.
