HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education on Monday will consider approval to purchase replacement iPads from Apple, Inc. for students.
The new devices will replace 4-year-old or older student iPads across the district. A quote was requested direct from Apple.
Purchasing directly from the manufacturer is the lowest-cost option for new equipment and enables District ownership and management rights within the Apple ecosystem.
For cost comparison, Apple quoted $479 per iPad; the same unit is $599 each at Best Buy Education and $600.49 each at CDWG.
The replacement cycle for computers and tablets is about four years.
Regular replacement isnecessary to meet the ever-increasing required hardware specifications to adequately operate software. Additionally, heavy classroom use leads to substantial wear and tear on the devices.
The quote from Apple is $698,073.
Also, the Board will consider approval to purchase 200 Chromebooks for Paras and Aides. These devices will replace 4-year-old or older laptops currently used by Paras and Aides.
Quotes were received from 2 vendors; ISG Technology provided the lowest quote for a total price of $78,484.
The meeting of the Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education is Monday at 6 p.m. at the administration center at 1520 North Plum.
