John ‘Mark’ Schaffter and Sally Ann Schaffter

John ‘Mark’ Schaffter, 75, and Sally Ann Schaffter, 74, of Arlington, Kansas died January 14, 2023 in their home.

Mark was born October 17, 1947 in Anthony, Kansas, the son of Dow and Nadine (Price) Schaffter. Sally was born November 14, 1948 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Mary Jane (Sanders) Peterson. Mark and Sally were married for 58 years. 

They both attended Hutchinson High School. They both retired in 2009 after working nearly their entire careers, a combined 81 years, for Eaton Corporation. They had three children, a daughter, Kim, and two sons, Dow and Darren. Mark was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, and gun collector. Sally was Mark’s biggest fan of all his hobbies; she even joined him on many of his hunting excursions. She also loved reading and collecting valuable pottery and prints.  They shared a love of antiques and owned The Arlington Trading Company for 25 years. Their favorite thing was spending time on their porch with their black lab, Mick. 

They are survived by their three children and their spouses, Kimberly (Mike) Baughman of Arlington, Kansas, Dow Schaffter of Dallas, Texas and Darren (Rhonda) Schaffter of Plevna, Kansas; siblings Mike Schaffter (Betty) of Hutchinson and Roger Peterson (Song) of Lenexa; grandchildren Abigail Baughman, Jessica Baughman, Amanda DuPree (Tavian), Alexa Schaffter, Erica Inslee (Jerrod), Devany Hargitt (Nathaniel), Gunner Schaffter (Paige) and ten great grandchildren. 

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Dow and Nadine Schaffter.  Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Jane Peterson and her brother Clay Peterson. 

There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the South Hutchinson Community Building, 101 W. Avenue C, South Hutchinson, 67505.
