Harold John Dirksen, 95, died June 25, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born June 15, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Peter John “Pete” and Bertha Luella (Prichard) Dirksen.
Harold received his GED while serving in the United States Army and attended the Salt City Business College. He was a Staff Sargent of the United States Army and served for eight years, as well as a member of the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. Harold worked as a clerk for the Morton Salt Company for over 35 years. In retirement, he and his wife, Fumiko, began dealing antiques at local flea markets. Harold was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time fishing around Cheney, Neosho and Abilene. He liked to find and collect old bottles.
On January 13, 1954, he married Fumiko Tanaka, in Tokyo, Japan. They shared over 74 years of marriage.
Harold is survived by: wife, Fumiko Dirksen of Hutchinson; children, Diana (Charlie) Mitzner of Abbyville, Steve (Tina) of Salina; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; children, John Dirksen, Dianna Dirksen; sisters, Juanita Gross and Katherine Scantlin.
Memorial service will be held at a later date, cremation has taken place.
