SEDGWICK COUNTY—A child was critically injured in an accident that may have involved street racing on Tuesday in Wichita.
Just before noon, police were dispatched to a vehicle crash at the intersection of 21st and Maize Road in Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.
A Toyota Camry was eastbound on 21st Street and collided with a minivan pulling out of a private drive. EMS transported the adult van driver and two 7-year-old children to a local hospital. One of the children was reported in critical condition, according to Gupilan. The driver of the Camry was not injured but spoke with police investigators about the crash.
During an online media briefing, Police Chief Joe Sullivan said witnesses indicated street racing may have contributed to the crash. Police are looking at several sources of video as part of their investigation.
