HAVEN, Kan. — The Haven Police Department, in partnership with the Haven Recreation Department and the Haven Chamber of Commerce, will host their third annual Summer Block Party in Downtown Haven on Saturday, May 20.
This free-to-attend community event is thanks to local businesses and their donations.
The Block Party will feature prizes throughout the day, bounce houses and inflatables, hot dogs, ice cream, drinks, a corn hole tournament, and water-based activities, including a dunk tank.
"Everybody should walk away with something, and it's a free event and all of the prizes and stuff are donated, they're all donations," Officer Matt Hayden with the Haven Police Department, said.
The Summer Block Party was started for Haven kids.
"When I started this, it was just a congratulations kind of for the kids because they finally made it out of COVID," Hayden said. "Just kind of a congratulations for making it through the school year."
Originally, the inaugural version of the Block Party was going to be much smaller.
"I started it out, I was going to just do some hot dogs and dunk tanks," Hayden said.
Hayden said the Haven Police Chief then told him to get local businesses on board by donating to the event, with many of them subsequently deciding they wanted to be more involved with the block party.
The Haven Police Department thanks local businesses for their generous donations.
The Summer Block Party will take place in Haven on the corner of Main Street and Kansas Avenue.
