HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Mennonite Disaster Relief Service has been brought in to help in the clean up from the Cottonwood Complex fire. A meeting was held last night to get victims of the fire updated on avenues they can take in the recovery.
According to Jeff Thomson of Interfaith Housing who is teaming up with Mennonite Disaster Relief to coordinate the recovery, heavy equipment is being used to get rid of trees around properties and remove what is left on properties destroyed by the fire.
Thomson says that some property owners are still at work recovering what may be left although most are finding little to take with them. He says if they decide they need the heavy equipment to remove debris that they call 211 and ask for assistance.
Monetary donations are still needed to help with the long term recovery. You can mail a check to the United Way of Reno County at 924 N. Main Hutchinson, KS 67501 or you can stop by the office and drop it off in person. You can also make a donation online at unitedwayofrenocounty.org.
