Russell G. Johnston, 70, of Hutchinson, died May 29, 2023 at Via Christi Village Ridge, Wichita, KS. He was born July 8, 1952 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Hutchinson, KS to Alva LeRoy Johnston and Christina Dora (Wakefield) Johnston.
Russell graduated from Haven High in 1970. He earned his Master Electrical License. He founded Applied Computer Services, Inc. in 1983 and continued managing the business up until shortly before his death. He was a member of St. Teresea Catholic Church, the Reno County Polio Support Group, and Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce. He mentored various groups and individuals.
Russell is survived by his sister Mary (Terry) McCoy of Hutchinson; nieces, Julie Kitston, Susan (Mark) Mattison, both of Hutchinson; and nephews, Brian (Teresa) Rife of Sterling, Christopher (Kara) Hartle and Scott McCoy, both of Hutchinson, Bryon McCoy of Wichita, Ross (Becca) McCoy of Wethersfield, CT. Russell was so proud and grateful for his ‘work’ family, Kevin Stevens, Loren Johnson, Debie Cape, Jeff Smith, and Tammy Harmony.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Alice Jeanette (Johnston) Hartle and Virgina Lee (Johnston) Rife.
A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 A.M. at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67501, with Father Matt Glazier officiating. A burial will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS.
