Fred’s life began on March 10, 1935, in White City. He is the son of Fred and Orlena (Kohls) Herpich.
Fred is a graduate of Woodbine High School and served his country in the United States Army Reserve before returning home to help on the family farm. Fred was a lifelong farmer in the area and also ran a carpentry crew for many years. He was an avid car collector and enjoyed his coffee group at the Hitching Post. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene. Fred was united in marriage to his wife of 64 years, Gladys Hamilton on January 2, 1958, in Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife Gladys of Abilene; daughter Jennifer (Joel) Phillips of Florida; grandchildren Ashley Johnson of Emporia, Hanna Phillips of Florida, and Haley Phillips of Virginia; great grandchildren Briley or Gauge Johnson and his sister Alvera Waymeyer of Topeka. Fred passed away at his home on Monday November 7, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Rick Herpich, infant daughter of Nancy Herpich, and sister Florence Steely.
His family will gather with friends on Saturday November 19, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Cemetery, White City for a graveside service led by Pastor Joseph Barlau of the Faith Lutheran Church. Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family.
