KANSAS CITY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of an apartment building fire in Kansas City.

Just after 4p.m. crews responded to a reported apartment fire in the 2700 block of Tracy, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Crews reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a three-story apartment building on all three floors in the rear of the structure.

Due to the high winds and a large exposure risk to the south a 1st alarm was dispatched and staged. Aggressive work by the first company on scene kept the fire from spreading to a large new apartment building under construction.

The residents of all 6 units will be displaced. Red Cross was ordered for 6 adults and three children. Multiple pets were rescued from the structure during operations. There were no injuries.
