4 KC apartments evacuated after Easter Sunday kitchen fire

KANSAS CITY —Investigators are working to determine the cause of an apartment fire In Kansas City.

Just after 3:30p.m. Sunday, crews responded to a reported an apartment complex fire at 8800 NE 82nd Street in Kansas City, Missouri, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

On arrival, crews found a  kitchen fire in a third-floor apartment that started on the stove and ignited the cabinets above. The apartments sprinkler system was able to contain and extinguish the fire. However, the fire created significant smoke requiring smoke evacuation.

A total of four apartments were affected. The fire apartment, the one next door due to smoke and the two below due to water damage from the sprinkler activation above. No injuries were reported at this incident.
