HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Walk to End Alzheimer's is Saturday.

"It is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research programs," said volunteer Jen Shroyer. "It's not just Alzheimer's, but it's also other dementias. I think here in Reno County, it's basically the same, especially for those that are affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias."

You can still register for the walk.

"The easiest way to register yourself or a team is to go to act.alz.org/hutch," Shroyer said. "That gets you right to our walk here in Hutchinson. It will give you all the details."

The walk starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at DCI Park at 20 West 2nd Ave. The promise garden ceremony is at 9:45 a.m.

"Currently, in the state of Kansas, there are 55,000 people affected with Alzheimer's or a dementia," Shroyer said. "You then have to think of all the people that surround that one person. If you've met one person with dementia, you really have only met one person with dementia, each is unique in its own self. The statistics show that this is just something that's going to continue to increase. That awareness and that fundraising needs to increase, so that we can find ways to combat and then find a cure."

There is no registration fee for the Walk. However, the Alzheimer's Association asks every participant to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer's.
