
Phyllis “Ruth” Schmucker, 90, of Buhler, died June 11, 2025, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born May 20, 1935, in Hutchinson, to Joseph and Lela (Jones) Stalcup.
Ruth was a graduate of Haven High School, Hutch Community College, and Salt City Business School. She worked for Hedricks Exotic Animal Farm and The Train Depot at the Kansas State Fair. Ruth was a homemaker and worked hard as a farmer’s wife. She was well known for her cookies, cinnamon red-hot Jello, and delicious potato salad. Ruth greatly enjoyed all flowers and was a member of the Hutchinson Iris Club.
On November 16, 1956, she married Earl Dean Schmucker in Hutchinson. They shared 58 years of marriage before his death on May 3, 2015.
Ruth is survived by: children, Ken (Michelle) Schmucker of Hutchinson, Bryan (Becky) Schmucker of Inman, and Brenda (Bill) Ebeling of Buhler; grandchildren, Jonathan (Kristen) Schmucker, Aaron (Jessica) Schmucker, Apryl (Dan) Dressler, Brooke (Matt) Harper, and Bailey (Cody) Hopkins; sisters, Jane Koontz and Carol Winkley both of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Brahnan, Beckett, Laikin, Keston, and Jayven Schmucker, Macklyn and Dayden Dressler, and Natalie, Alex, and Charolotte Harper, and Lucy and Lily Hopkins.
She was preceded in death by: parents; beloved husband, Earl Dean Schmucker; siblings, Bud Stalcup, Dorothy Kline, and Mary Dodds; and great-grandson, Travis Paul Harper.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, 415 N. West St. Buhler, KS, with Minister Jimie-Wray Mead and Pastor Curt Vogt officiating. Burial will follow the service at 4 p.m. at Abbyville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
