Kansas CPOST Director Doug Schroeder was this year's guest speaker. Schroeder shared memories of close friends who passed away in the line of duty. He also talked about the important sacrifice law enforcement officers make.

"As law enforcement officers, we know and understand the risk and the challenges," Schroeder said. "Yet despite these challenges, our fallen heroes answered the call with courage and dedication.  Each of the over 24,000 names engraved on the national monument wall in Washington D.C. represent the embodiment of honor, integrity and selflessness."

Reno County Sheriff Darrian Campbell gave the opening statement, Chaplain Adam Wooten gave the invocation and Hutchinson Police Chief Brice Burlie gave closing remarks.

The Reno County Honor Guard conducted the posting of the colors and several law enforcement officers read off the names of past officers in the Reno County area who died in the line of duty.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day which falls on the same week as National Police Week.
