James “Jim” H. Siemens, 91, died February 2, 2024, at Thorne Care Center of Wesley Towers. He was born September 8, 1932, during the Dust Bowl, in Dalhart, Texas, to Peter H. and Katie (Warkentin) Siemens.

Jim graduated from Burrton High School in 1950, and attended Wichita State University. He worked at Dillon Distribution Center from 1953 to 1960, when he began farming near Burrton. In 1984 Jim began working in the Harvey County Appraiser’s Office as planning and zoning administrator. In 1989 he began working in the appraiser’s office in Hutchinson, becoming the Reno County appraiser in 1993. Jim served in that position until his retirement in 2003.

On July 16, 1960, he married Patricia Matzen in Hutchinson. They lived on a farm near Burrton until moving to Hutchinson in 1995. They have shared 63 years of marriage.

Jim was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, and the Hutchinson Civitan Club. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, refurnishing antique vehicles, and woodworking. Jim was known as a history buff and he loved getting coffee with “the guys”.

He is survived by: wife, Pat Siemens, Hutchinson; daughters, Lori Gannaway (Byron), McKinney, Texas, Kerri Daniels (Mike), Wellsville; grandchildren, Anna Daniels Palmer (Danny), Katherine Daniels, Brett Gannaway, Brooke Gannaway, Anthony Daniels (Sydney); six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; four sisters, and two brothers.

Memorial service will be 2 pm Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday at Elliott Mortuary. A private family burial will take place in Burrton Cemetery.

In liue of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church to benefit missions work, or the Hutchinson Civitan Club, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
