SALINE COUNTY —The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday night near 115th Road and Belmont Avenue in Sweet Springs.
Just before 6:30p.m. Tuesday, MSHP Troopers were notified that the Concordia Police Department was in pursuit of motorcycle driven by a suspect wanted for an out-of-state homicide, according to a media release from the Patrol.
Police lost sight of the motorcycle near 120th Road south of Interstate 70 in rural Saline County. Additional officers moved into the area to search for the suspect. Just before 8p.m. Troopers in the area saw a motorcycle and rider matching the description of the suspect traveling westbound on 115th Road toward Belmont Avenue.
The motorcycle crashed into a Trooper's patrol vehicle and the suspect ran from the crash. The Trooper ran after him. The suspect, armed with a handgun, fired at the Trooper striking him bullet resistant vest. The Trooper returned fire striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The Trooper was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
