Richard Alfred Jensen was born April 3, 1938 in the home of Gustav Nystrom 1 mile west and ½ mile south of Scandia, Ks. He died on Sunday, September 18, 2022 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Rick was 84.

The son of Vivian Agnus (Nystrom) and Arthur Alexander Jensen, he attended Scandia Grade School and later moved with his parents to Republic, KS., where he graduated from Republic High School in 1956. Rick married on October 1960, to this union two children were born, Staci and Sean. He joined the Army in 1960 and was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged. Rick resided in Republic KS. He worked on a farm, drove a school bus, worked at Republic Feed & Fertilizer and sold MoorMan Feed. He also worked for Farmers Co-Op Commission Elevator in Hutchinson, KS and mowed lawns for Hutchinson Community College and KS Law Enforcement. He also managed Water district # 3. On September 2, 1988, Richard and Janice Louise (Sterling) were married at the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. They reside at the old naval base near Yoder, KS. Joining this union was Dan, Chris, DeAnna and Teresa.

Rick and Jan enjoyed many wonderful trips together. They enjoyed motorcycle trips, especially their trip to Europe. They square danced, bingo at the Legion, bus trips and card parties. Rick was a member of the American Legion, The Moose Lodge and Eagles Club.

Rick is survived by his wife, Jan Jensen of the home, children, Staci and Jon Strnad of Belleville, KS., Sean Jensen of Deer park, TX., Dan and Sarah Smith, Chris and Jeff Neighbors, DeAnna Blew and Donnie Jackson all of Hutchinson, KS., and Teresa and Louis Enriquez of El Paso, TX.; sister, Virginia Carr of Fowler, OH.; 12 grandchildren, Morgan and Grant Strnad, Mark and Keith Gregg, Ashley Bengtson, Brody Smith, Jeff and Kelton Neighbors, Amanda, Andrea and Angela Jackson (the gator girls) and Courtney Enriquez; and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Richard A. Jensen Memorial fund and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
