Sandra S. Pugh, age 77, of Hutchinson, passed away June 9, 2025.  She was born January 23, 1948, to Carl and Lena Hogan, in Nashville, KS.

Sandy attended school in Mullinville until her senior year when her father took a job in Sharon Springs and moved the family where she graduated from Sharon Springs High School in 1966. Sandy attended Dodge City Community Junior College School of Cosmetology. She passed her State Board of Cosmetology exam and worked as a beautician for over 40 years. Sandy also was the assistant administrator for Penwell Gabel Funeral Home in Hutchinson until the funeral home was sold. Next, she worked at Wesley Towers in the activities department until she retired.

On October 24, 1970, Sandy married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Pugh, and for the next 55 years they lived in Hutchinson. Sandy had lots of hobbies - she took painting and art classes at Hutch Junior College, she enjoyed doing embroidery, needle point, learning to play the piano, photography, entering the State Fair Cookie Jar contest and won a first, second, and third place ribbons for her cookie jars. Sandy enjoyed writing and wrote weekly articles for the Rural Messenger for over ten years. She wrote and published a book titled, “Mullinville, My Home Town” and taught a Life Story Writing Class for residents at Wesley Towers.

Sandy belonged to Soroptimist Club, Altrusa Club, and started the therapy dog program with her certified therapy cocker spaniels. They were both hospice volunteers and visited the hospital, rest homes, and hospice patients.

Sandy is survived by: her husband, Jerry Pugh of Hutchinson; sister, Carla Hogan of Hutchinson; brothers, Dewane (Crystal) Hogan, Macksville, Robert Hogan of Macksville; three nieces and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Carl and Lena Hogan; grandparents, James and Pearl Hart and George and Nora Lee Hogan; and Sandy’s two beloved therapy dogs, Lady and Lacy.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville.

Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Elliott Mortuary.
