Police locate couple in report of suspicious minivan in Kansas

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating several cases of alleged suspicious activity involving a mini van have located the 2006 Ford Freestar along with a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman associated with the vehicle.

On Thursday evening, police located them at a motel in the 8200 Block of East Kellogg in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. 

The couple also has an infant child and a 1-year-old, according to Davidson.  "It appears the couple was asking individuals for assistance for their children which is not a crime. The children are healthy and had their needs met."

Police are now working with the couple to provide avenues of resourses if they need it for the children, according to Davidson.

Police were also contacted by several individuals who had contact with the couple and the van after the original report in the media. Officers are working to learn what happened in each instance.

Just before 4p.m.  Monday, officers responded to a suspicious character call at businesses in the 7700 block of East Kellogg, in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. 

A 54-year-old woman reported that an unknown male driver and unknown woman passenger approached her 16-year-old son and her 17-year-old daughter in a parking lot in a tan Ford Freestyle van and asked for them to help with their child. 

The teenagers refused, no children were observed in the vehicle and the suspects fled in the van.    

Just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a suspicious character call at a business in the 10500 block of West Central in Wichita.  Upon arrival, officers contacted a 59-year-old woman who reported an unknown male driver and a woman passenger in a minivan pulled up beside her vehicle and asked if she would help with their child.  She refused, no children were observed in the van and she left in her vehicle.  There were no injuries in this case.  

Similar incidents were also reported to have occurred at a business in the 3700 block of North Woodlawn in Andover, Kansas.

The driver is described as a dark-skinned black male in his late 20’s or early 30’s, small build and bald.  The passenger is described as a black female in her late 20’s or early 30’s, shoulder-length hair.  The van is a tan Ford Freestyle van with a Kansas tag  078 LWY.
