RENO COUNTY, Kan. — According to a social medial post from the Reno County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement agencies in Reno County conducted more than 40 traffic stops on Wednesday morning with vehicles without their headlights on during very heavy fog.
The majority of these interactions were with drivers who didn't realize their automatic lights were not functioning due to the ambient light of the morning. Automatic headlights do not always detect fog in the same way they do darkness, so make sure your headlights are switched on manually.
It is required by law to have your headlights on if visibility is less than 1000 ft. or wipers are in constant use. Better to be safe than sorry.
