Chiefs lose, Titans clinch 2nd straight AFC South, beating Miami 34-3
UNDATED (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs' eight-game winning streak is over and they've lost the pole position in the AFC playoff race with their 34-31 loss at Cincinnati.
The Tennessee Titans are now the top seed heading into Week 18. The Titans ended Miami's seven-game winning streak with a 34-3 win Sunday.
Ryan Tannehill threw two touchdown passes as the Tennessee Titans clinched their second straight AFC South title Sunday, snapping the Miami Dolphins' seven-game winning streak with a 34-3 win. The Titans won their second straight overall and third in four games to clinch their first back-to-back division titles since the start of the AFL when this franchise was the Houston Oilers.
The win made them the top seed in the AFC when Kansas City lost at Cincinnati. Miami had been the first NFL team to win seven straight after a seven-game skid to move into the third and final wild-card spot in the AFC.
Joe Burrow broke the single-season passing record for the Cincinnati Bengals. In the second quarter against the Chiefs, Burrow passed the 4,293 yards recorded by Andy Dalton in the 2013 season.
In other NFL action:
— Derek Carr directed Las Vegas to Daniel Carlson's winning 33-yard field goal as time expired, and the Raiders beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-20 to move one step closer to an AFC wild card. After Michael Badgley kicked a tying 41-yard field goal for Indianapolis with 1:56 left, Carr and the Raiders got the ball back at their 25 after a touchback. Carr found Hunter Renfrow for 24 yards on third-and-10 in the final minute, setting the stage for Carlson's third field goal of the game. Carr passed for 255 yards and a touchdown for Las Vegas, and Zay Jones had eight receptions for 120 yards.
— Devin Singletary scored two touchdowns rushing in the second half to make up for Josh Allen's sloppiness and the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills rallied to clinch their third consecutive playoff berth with a 29-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Buffalo clinched the playoff berth by beating the Falcons coupled with the Ravens' 20-19 loss to the Rams. Atlanta's Kyle Pitts has set the franchise rookie record for yards receiving, becoming the NFL's second rookie tight end to top 1,000 yards receiving. Pitts upped his season total to 1,018 yards receiving with season-high 61-yard catch and run late in the second quarter against the Buffalo Bills.
— Rookie quarterback Mac Jones threw three touchdown passes and Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for two scores apiece to put the New England Patriots in the playoffs with their 50-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The victory and Miami's loss at Tennessee did the job for the Patriots. They snapped a two-game losing streak and gave Bill Belichick his 20th 10-win season as a head coach, tying Don Shula for the most in NFL history. The Jaguars have lost eight consecutive games.
— The Philadelphia Eagles held on to beat Washington 20-16 and moved one step closer to the playoffs. Jalen Hurts scrambled out of trouble while showing no ill effects from a recent ankle injury, and Boston Scott rushed for two touchdowns. Hurts ran six times for 45 yards and was 17 of 26 passing for 214 yards in leading the Eagles to a fourth consecutive victory. Hurts also narrowly escaped a railing collapse as he walked to the tunnel after the game. Pending other results around the NFL, they could have an NFC wild-card spot locked up by the end of the night. Rodney McLeod picked off Taylor Heinicke in the end zone with 24 seconds remaining to seal it.
— Robert Quinn broke Hall of Famer Richard Dent's franchise single-season record with his 18th sack, and the Chicago Bears pounded the New York Giants 29-3. Trevis Gipson added a career-high two sacks and the Bears joined Green Bay as the only franchises with 800 victories counting the postseason. They also gave the embattled Matt Nagy a win in what might have been his final home game as their coach. Quinn broke Dent's mark of 17 1/2 set in 1984 when he took down Mike Glennon in the fourth quarter. —
— The Baltimore Ravens were called for a crucial delay-of-game penalty on third-and-goal from the 4 and after settling for a field goal on that drive, they allowed the Los Angeles Rams to drive the other way for the winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining. The Ravens lost 20-19 on Sunday in a devastating blow to their postseason hopes. Baltimore has dropped five straight games, four decided by two points or fewer.
— Antonio Brown was kicked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a bizarre, shirtless exit from the field before Tom Brady coolly led the Bucs on a 93-yard drive in the final minutes for a 28-24 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Coach Bruce Arians said after the game that Brown was off the team. Brown's mid-game meltdown came late in the third quarter with Tampa Bay trailing 24-10. He appeared animated while talking to teammate Mike Evans when he stripped off his pads, jersey, gloves and T-shirt — tossing the gloves and T-shirt into the stands. He then jogged into the tunnel.
