Alan Clay Gilliam, 71, died unexpectedly July 15, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born August 30, 1952, in Wichita, to James P. and Edna LaVerne (Smith) Gilliam.
Alan graduated from Valley Center High School, in 1971. He had worked at Haven Steel Products. Known by his family and friends as a workaholic, Alan enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and volunteering at his church, Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.
On February 10, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Kay Lickey, in Valley Center.
Alan is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Sandra Gilliam of Hutchinson; daughter, Angie Ridings (Dan) of Edmond, OK; daughter-in-law, Amy Beden-Gilliam; brother, Donald Gene Gilliam (Connie) of Mulvane; sister, Cindy Lees (Dana) of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Paige Ridings, Cody Ridings, Jordan Young, and Mackenzie Garcia (Rigo Garcia); and great-aunt, Shirley Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Matthew Gilliam and Daniel Gilliam.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Laurel Cemetery, rural Haven. Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
