Ismael Cordero, 79, of Hutchinson, died January 6, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 15, 1945, in Pozo De Gamboa, Zacatecas, Mexico to Francisco and Angela De Los Angeles Cardona Olivo Cordero. 

Ismael came to the United States at the age of 18 and earned his citizenship in 1992 at the age of 47. He was a self-taught car mechanic along with an excellent home renovator who was never afraid to put in hard labor. Ismael was humbly employed as a machine operator for Union Pacific Railroad for 20 years. He enjoyed watching boxing and working with his hands. Ismael will be remembered for always teasing and pulling pranks on his wife, six children, and grandchildren. 

In 1970, while in Emporia, Ismael met the love of his life, Anna Zimmerman. In May 1974, they were married in Liberal. They shared nearly 50 beautiful years of marriage before his death. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and his legacy will continue. His family and friends meant everything to him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand no matter what time of day it was. 

Ismael is survived by his cherished wife, Anna Cordero; children, Debbie (Jesus) Vasquez of Hutchinson, Sandra (Lamont) Wells of Garden City, Chris Cordero of Hutchinson, Angie (Adrian) Gonzalez of Salina, and Becky (Angel) Cordero of Hutchinson; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eva Cordero; and daughter, Lisa Ramirez. 

Parish Rosary will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 13th, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church, both officiated by Father Weldon, with a meal to follow. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ismael Cordero Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501 to benefit the Ismael Cordero Memorial Fund. Please make checks payable to Elliott Mortuary.
