
Johnie Mack Murphy Sr. died June 2, 2025 at his home in Oroville, California at the age of 87.
He was born August 30, 1937 near Haven, Kansas to C. Lloyd Murphy and Ida May (Bigley) Murphy.
He attended Hutchinson schools and graduated HHS class of 1956. He then served in the U.S. Naval Reserve on USS Wittstruck and then with Air National Guard Reserve.
Johnie worked for Boeing, Cessna, Reger Rental, Ultra Van and American Salt Company before moving to California in 1970, eventually retiring as an insurance agent.
He married Shirley White in April, 1957. They later divorced. Johnie married Opal (Flynn) Moore on May 28, 1964. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Johnie played golf, bowled, fished, enjoyed camping and belonged to Moose Lodge and AFL/CIO.
He attended First Church of God Church.
Johnie was preceded in death by parents, infant sister Janet Murphy, son-in-law Harold Shipley, brother-in-law and sister Doug Mitchell and Deanna Mitchell, sister-in-law Jan Murphy, son Johnie M. Murphy Jr., grandson Mike Moore, and infant great granddaughter, Zeta Abundiz.
He is survived by wife Opal, daughter Penny (Bob) Remson, son Shawn (Angie) Murphy, daughter-in-law Tracy Murphy, step daughters Doris (Mike) Sims, Debbie Galbreath, and Becky (Jay) Cort and step son Terry Moore, 38 grandchildren, 45 great grand children, brothers Jim (Lois) Murphy and Bill Murphy, and sister Dee Murphy.
