Mary L. McCarthy, 74, died December 8, 2024, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born November 13, 1950, in Columbus, Indiana, to Thaddeus and Mary (Calvert) Darosett.
Mary worked at The Hutchinson News for many years. She also worked with Graber Elementary School along with the Rural Messenger. Mary was passionate about camping and enjoyed frequenting Pete’s Puddle RV resort in Burrton. She loved spending quality time with her family and her camping family. Mary was enthusiastic about rescuing and loved her feline friends, especially one name Kaat.
On April 11, 1997, she married Thomas McCarthy. They shared 27 beautiful years together before her death.
Mary is survived by: husband, Thomas McCarthy of Hutchinson; daughters, Dawn (Ziggy) Jarczyk, Meghan (Jared) Helin of Manhattan, Colleen McCarthy of Hutchinson; son, Thomas (Cassie) McCarthy of Nickerson; grandchildren, Kayla (Cameron) Hailey, Casey (Shane) Hatfield, Kealey Flowers, Kazimierz Jarczyk, Thomas McCarthy and Kallen McCarthy of Nickerson, Palmer Helin and Press Helin of Manhattan; nieces, Angie Mourn, Elisha Flores, Corene Corcoran, Melissa Flores, Debbie Glass, Amanda Darosett, Stephanie Darosett, Amy Darosett; nephews, Shawn Darosett and Tony Darosett.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Roger Darosett, Jeff Darosett, Gary Darosett, and David Darosett; niece, Shannon Darosett.
Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Cremation has taken place.
Family to receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. December 13, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Gary Getting officiating.
The service will be live streamed and link to view it will be active beginning at 10:45 a.m. the day of the service.
