
Donald Roy "Charlie" Brown passed away on November 28, 2024, at 1:20 a.m. at the age of 90. He was born on November 20, 1934, in Sloan, Iowa, to Clifford Clinton Brown and Della Cora Copper. Donald married Elizabeth Joan Brown on April 17, 1954, at the young age of 20 and began a 17 plus-year career in the United States Navy. He and Joan enjoyed a beautiful 70-year marriage.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Lea Brown Carr Harnett; twin sons, Donald Roy Brown II and Charles Clinton Brown II, and his wife Meranda; son John Haynes; sister Mabel Teddlie; and grandchildren: Adam Carr and significant other Dawn Perkins (Florida), Nathan Carr and significant other Jessica Butler (Florida), Amy Haynes and husband Anthony Matukas (Florida), John Haynes II (Florida), Daniel Brown (Florida), Jessica Soliz and husband Ian (Illinois), and Tim Maloney (Iowa). He also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Hayden Carr, Hayley Carr, Danielle Carr, Cali Carr, Oakley Carr, twins Hailie Jolley, Elizabeth Jolley, Jeremy Jolley, Angela Jolley, Robert Matukas, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book Sunday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.
Donald was a tremendous craftsman and avid golfer who cherished memories with his family and sailing the seas with the love of his life. He had an unparalleled personality and a vivacious sense of humor. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS.
