Mary Ann Conklin, 92, died December 17, 2025, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born July 5, 1933, in Leavenworth, to Arthur and Alma (Kloepper) Kaaz.
Mary Ann graduated from Leavenworth High School and KU, with her bachelor’s degree in accounting. She spent numerous hours working on genealogy, walking, and tending to her roses. Mary Ann was a member of P.E.O. Chapter CM. Faith and family were her priorities. Mary Ann was a long-time member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, and left her handprint on about every aspect of the church. She taught Sunday school, participated in the Christ Care Walkers, and was always willing to help out where needed. Through the peaks and valleys in Mary Ann’s life, she never lost her faith. Above all, Mary Ann loved raising her family and instilling the importance of a strong faith in her children.
On December 21, 1954, she married Stuart F. “Joe” Conklin, Jr., in Leavenworth. They shared almost 50 years of marriage before his death on August 6, 2003.
Mary Ann is survived by: children, Stuart F. Conklin III of Hutchinson, Steven A. Conklin of Watertown, WI, and Susan Fangman (Joe) of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law, Kathy Conklin Goertzen (Rick) of Aurora, NE; sister, Marjorie Kaaz Dunn of Stuart, FL; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Scott Conklin; and brother, Arthur Kaaz, Jr.
Private family graveside service will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
