"Residents determined the extent of their neighborhood as between Walnut Street and the Ken Kennedy Freeway, from the railroad right of way south of 3rd Avenue to the railroad right of way south of Avenue C," Richardson said.

Residents Mike O'Neal and Darryl Peterson accepted the proclamation on behalf of the neighborhood, and several other residents were in attendance at the meeting.

"We have a lot of things to be thankful for," Peterson said. "It's been a long time coming. Thank God for the people that's been involved in it. I appreciate Steve Garza so much, because he's really helped us to implement, get it started, motivate. Not only that, but Adam and Tony, we just thank them for all the wisdom that they had. Without the people coming together, where would we be? But, its finally come to the end and the proclamation looks really, really good. We're excited and this is just the beginning of something greater."

This is the seventh featured neighborhood in the Hutchinson Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative.

The city has a couple of incentive programs that are specifically available to featured neighborhoods. Those are a downpayment incentive, up to $2500 toward the downpayment to purchase a home in one of the featured neighborhoods for a first-time home buyer. There is also a program with Peoples Bank and Trust, where people can receive an interest free home repair loan.
