HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Tyson Foods released its third quarter earnings report before the bell Monday.

The meat and poultry company reported earnings of just over $2 billion compared with $1.4 billion a year ago. Total sales also increased to $12.4 billion.

After some downturns due to the pandemic, prepared food sales increased by 4.5% to $2.3 billion and operating income increased by 6.5% to $150 million. Production and revenue is still down for the first nine months of the year due to restaurant shutdowns.

The company showed a strong recovery from the pandemic. Whether the company can sustain the run through the second wave of illness remains to be seen. The company was forced to shut down facilities during the pandemic in 2020 and has taken steps to try to avoid any repeat.

The company reported last week that all employees must be vaccinated by the end of November.
