HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An accident Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. at the intersection of 4th and Walnut resulted in two people transported to Hutchinson Regional with minor injuries, one by police and the other by EMS.
Police chief Jeff Hooper tells Hutch Post that the officer involved was not injured.
Hooper told Hutch Post on Friday that they are waiting on additional information as they continue to investigate the case.
"It's one of those unfortunate things," Hooper said. "Our officers drive all the time. There's a lot going on, where they are working on the radio and things like that in the cars. The young officer, as I understand it, reached down to flip his lights on and entered the intersection. We're still investigating that. We're pulling the footage from our in car camera."
That's a little more complicated than it seems.
"The camera wasn't on at the time, but it's always recording," Hooper said. "When we have an accident collision, it activates the recording on that camera. Our IT guy's going back to pull that video, so we can really see what happened."
Hooper explained that it keeps a short period of time in the camera's memory if a collision happens and that is different than when the system is turned on, so it will take work from IT to get that information. Hooper did not give the names of any of the parties involved.
