HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Buhler USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman is encouraging Crusader parents with returning students to get their online enrollment done for the fall.
"There's a couple advantages for you," Couchman said. "If you pay fees ahead of August 7, the credit card fee is waived. That is an advantage to the parents, but it also helps us plan our bus routes and get kids in the right classes and all the things that have to happen in order for school to start. We really want to encourage everybody to get online and enroll. You can wait and pay your fees, if you want, but you can still enroll."
New students have their own day for enrollment.
"If you are a new student to the area and you are attending Buhler schools, our in person new student enrollment is happening this Thursday," Couchman said. "That's tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in any of our buildings. You can see our attendance centers. It's linked on our Facebook page and our website under enrollment. On there is all the information. If you're unclear on which elementary school to attend, you can check out our attendance center map. We hope to see all of our newest little Crusaders and big Crusaders tomorrow in our buildings."
It's very important that every parent fill out the free or reduced lunch form, if at all possible.
"It doesn't even hurt to fill it out if you're like, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to qualify," Couchman said. "It doesn't take long to fill it out. Fill out the paperwork. There's a lot of reasons to do it. It benefits your family, you can get reduced lunches and breakfasts and sometimes free breakfasts and lunches and meals for your family. It keeps our kids fed. We know that hungry kids don't learn very well. There's also unintended benefits, for even our school district. There are many things that are based upon how many students qualify for free and reduced lunch, including, can you offer school lunch programs in the summer, including our at risk money that helps all students and those students that have qualified. Some of the ESSER money was based upon that. Our title money, all the things that are based upon our free and reduced lunch count."
The first day of school in Buhler USD 313 is August 15.
