Gay Newton, 87, died March 16, 2023, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born October 31, 1935, in Syracuse, KS, to George Robert and Edna Doris (Dorwin) Hatton.

Gay graduated from Johnson High School, Johnson, KS.  She was a homemaker, in addition to teaching piano lessons for over 30 years, greeting at Conklin Cars, and working for the Girl Scouts. Gay was a member of the Christian Women’s Club and Union Valley Bible Church.  She enjoyed Bible Studies at the church, and volunteering Sunday mornings as a greeter.  Gay always had a big, beautiful smile that made everyone feel welcomed and loved.

On January 16, 1955, she married Dwaine Eldon Newton, in Johnson, KS.  He died December 7, 2009, after they shared almost 55 years of marriage.

Gay is survived by:  sons, Rick Newton (Shelly) and Kyle Newton, all of Hutchinson; son-in-law, Mike Winter of Mount Hope; siblings, Bill  Hatton (Judy) of Frisco, TX, LuAnn Markano of Wichita, and Leaura Plummer of Colorado; grandchildren, Alaina Rae Newton of Hutchinson, Elizabeth Rankin or Oregon, Melissa A. Newton-Graves of Colorado, Kylie Newton of Hutchinson and Kolby Newton of Wichita; honorary granddaughter, Kelly Bruce Rayl (Aaron) of Hutchinson; five step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; daughter, Melody Winter; sister, Lee Bjerke; and a brother, George Hatton.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating.  Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.  Cremation has taken place.
