HAVEN, Kan. — The Haven City Council passed its 2022 budget on Tuesday.

Budget authority for 2022 is $6,944,284 on total taxes levied of $458,868. With that, the mill levy stays at 60.859 mills.

No one from the public commented as part of either the Revenue Neutral Rate or the regular budget hearing.

The Haven Fall Festival events are planned from Friday, October 8 through Saturday, October 9.

Festival Chairperson Vicki Myers requested the Council’s blessing to hold a BYOB Friday night event as well as a beer garden on Saturday. Both motions passed the council unanimously.

The City will provide portable toilets, electric hook ups, blockades, extra trash cans, the hanging of flags, assistance with 4-Corner decorations, and the moving of picnic tables to the downtown area.

The council also approved having Clean Rite sweep the streets in Haven for $5,900. Council members voiced their desire to have the streets swept more often than twice a year, perhaps more seasonally or quarterly. The hope is that the streets can be swept before the Fall Festival and that the City can get on some sort of regular schedule going forward.

The City of Haven will also extend an offer to USD 312 for an option to purchase real estate for the Wildcat Landing development, located just behind the USD 312 administrative offices, for a cost not to exceed $50,000. The city will also apply for a Moderate-Income Housing Grant, with $115,292.50 in match funds dedicated to the project. The city also set a public hearing on the proposed Rural Housing Incentive District connected with the development for October 18 at 7:00 p.m.
