Roberta A. (McDaniel) Leiker, 91, passed away on Sunday May 28, 2023 at home at Catholic Care Center, Wichita, KS. She and her twin brother Robert were born Feb. 2, 1932 in Scott County, KS to Daisy Mae (Cook) and Anson Robert McDaniel. While the birth certificate listed Feb. 2, their mother Daisy always said they were born Feb. 1.
Roberta attended the Liberty County Grade School in Logan County and graduated from Scott City High School in 1950. She worked at the Wallace Café and the Eskimo in high school. Roberta also worked for Duckwalls and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. After moving to McPherson, she worked at Anthonys and Calhoun before retiring from Sterling Drug.
She married Peter C. Leiker on Aug. 1, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Scott City, KS. They have three children, David, Donna and Diane.
Roberta was preceded in death by parents Anson Robert McDaniel and Daisy Mae (Cook) McDaniel, her brothers Robert and Arlo McDaniel, sisters Melva Rose, Virgie Redding, Marjorie McDaniel, and Lucille Barraza, and twin great granddaughters Celeste and Marie Rondeau.
She is survived by her husband, Peter C. Leiker; children, David M. (Mary) Leiker, Donna M. (Greg) Spachek, and Diane M. Scroggins; her grandchildren Michael (Amy) Leiker, Patrick (Megan) Leiker and Monica (Eric) Rondeau; Beth Spachek, Rebecca (Sean) Findley, and Daniel (Scott Miller) Spachek; Vanessa Scroggins and Sarah (Joel Tindall) Scroggins; great grandchildren, Thomas, Mary Claire and Grace Leiker; Edison, Charlotte and Pierce Leiker; Evelyn and triplets Margaret, Amelia and Walter Rondeau; Arthur Findley; and Leila Scroggins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 4-7 pm., at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, McPherson. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:00 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson, KS. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
