Dorothy A. (Peterson) Sitts, 92, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:45 p.m,, Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Cedars, McPherson, Kansas.

Dorothy was born in Salina, Kansas on October 10, 1930, a daughter of Merlin Lyle and Mary Pauline (Komarek) Peterson.

Dorothy attended the Saline County Schools and graduated from Little River High School, Little River, Kansas. in 1948. She then attended McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas.

Dorothy Peterson was united in marriage to Marland J. Sitts on May 4, 1952 at the Andover Lutheran Church, rural Windom, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Marla.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church McPherson and was an Affiliate member of the First United Methodist Church, McPherson.

Dorothy taught school in a one room country school just South of Marquette, Kansas, which had a total of 16 students for all 8 grades. She was also a receptionist - secretary for McPherson Citizens State Bank; later became Assistant Cashier for McPherson State Bank and Trust. She then served as the Assistant Vice President of McPherson Bank and Trust, and later she kept her position as well as the first woman Commercial and Agriculture loan officer for Bank IV from which she retired. After her retirement she worked for the FSA and NRCS offices as well as for almost 14 years for Bill Mills Law Office. She was also the past President of Soroptimist Club, of McPherson; Past President of Sunflower Chapter of FWI (Financial Women International); and she volunteered her time as a tutor for the McPherson Schools and in the program Reach to Recovery for the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by her daughter, Marla Bradshaw and her husband Steve, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law Meredith Davis, of Little River, Kansas; her nieces, Rebecca Blick, of Lawrence, Kansas and Lisa Thornburg and her husband Craig, of Rossville, Kansas and her nephew Anthony "Tony" Peterson, of Lawrence, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marland J. Sitts; her brother Paul Peterson and her sister, Barbara Mock.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas with Pastor Emily Cannon officiating.

Final Resting Place is at McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
