HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As expected, the USD 308 Board of Education approved a new contract with its teachers during a special meeting Monday night.
Approval of the contract ends a long negotiation process that ended this past summer with both sides declaring an impasse. A mediator was brought in and after several meetings both sides came to an agreement in late October.
Under the new agreement, teachers will see an increase to the base pay and funding of step and column movement for teachers. An additional step was added to some of the columns to fund movement for teachers who were frozen on the wage scale.
Also in the agreement is a $750 one time premium pay to teachers this year. Now that the contract is approved, the additional compensation would be prorated through the rest of the contract year.
Teachers gave their approval to the contract in a vote Dec. 2.
