WBB: No. 25 Dragons finish regular season with road win

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — No. 25 Hutchinson (25-5, 19-5) finished the regular season with a road win Wednesday night. 

The Dragons jumped out to a 19-11 advantage before taking a one-point lead into the break. 

The Dragons went up 44-33 headed into the final frame and held a 12-point advantage with 6:29 left after trailing by four in the third quarter. 

Mya Williams led Hutchinson with 19 points. She broke the record for most points by a freshman in a single season with 558.

The game was decided at the free throw line after the Busters battled back within two points.

Kalyn Ervin calmly hit six straight free throws to ensure the victory.

With the victory, Hutchinson shares the  regular season conference championship with Independence. 

Tor'e Alford just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. 

Mel Kailahi had seven points and 13 rebounds. 

Garden City (18-11, 13-11) was led by Dayshanwa Carter's 14 points off the bench. 

Hutchinson held Garden City to 0-5 from the three-point line. 

Hutchinson gets a bye in the first round of the Region VI playoffs and will have a home game Tuesday night.
