Board of County Commissioners will extend commercial solar moratorium

RENO COUNTY — The Board of Reno County Commissioners will have approval of an extension to the solar moratorium in the county as part of their consent agenda on Wednesday.

The moratorium, if approved as written, would extend until until July 1, 2024. It can be ended by the Board at any time before that they choose, if they want to take the opposite action.

They originally had a moratorium in place to give the county's Planning Commission time to develop solar project regulations.

Given the consensus of the board that additional work is required of the Planning Commission, they are giving them more time to do it.

It appeared at previous meetings that large scale commercial solar is not something the Board of County Commissioners wants in place under any circumstances, but smaller projects may have a chance at approval and narrowing the parameters for those is the work they would like to see continue.

The Board of County Commissioners meets Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Room at the Reno County Courthouse.
