Virginia Lucille (Guild) Rexroad, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, in Hutchinson, on September 17, 2024. In her 91 years, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  

Virginia was born August 12, 1933 in Winfield, KS, to Frank and Halcyone Guild. She had two older sisters, Frances Jean who did not survive birth, and Gwenda Lea Guild Pratt. 

Virginia was raised in Winfield, and graduated from Winfield High School in 1951. She attended Oklahoma State University as a business major, and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was active in music during her school years, playing flute in band, orchestra, and ensembles. She played piano for her own enjoyment throughout her life.  

She married William (Bill) D. Rexroad on February 22, 1953. They were married for 61 years. Bill and Virginia knew each other growing up in Winfield and started dating at the end of their senior year in high school.  Virginia and Bill had four children: Susan J. Byler (Roger) of Topeka, KS, David C. Rexroad (Christina) of Hutchinson, KS, Gary A. Rexroad (Angie) of Lawrence, KS, and Joseph B. Rexroad of Chipita Park, CO. Together they had eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. They also had many beloved nieces and nephews. Virginia also had a special relationship with her sister’s daughter, Pam Herr (Mike) of Cascade, CO.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, her sister, and her husband. 

Over the course of her life, Virginia was a devoted mother to her four children.  She worked at Hutchinson Community Junior College for a period of time.  In 1978, she, her husband Bill, and son Gary, started the company, Electrex, Inc. which makes electrical wiring harnesses. After retiring, Virginia did volunteer work through R.S.V.P. in Hutchinson.  In 1995, she signed on as volunteer office worker for the Hutchinson Police Department and worked there for nearly twenty years.  She received awards of recognition for her volunteer work, including the President’s Volunteer Service award in 2010.  Virginia was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church.  She was a Stephen Minister, a Disciple of Bible Study, and involved with Walk to Emmaus.

Virginia loved to swim, to go for walks, to do and teach Tai Chi and chair yoga, was an avid gardener, and loved to cook vegetarian. Virginia loved to play games with her family and friends, especially Mexican Train Dominos, Rumicube, Quirkle, and Mahjong on Sunday afternoons. She was also an amateur archeologist and volunteered for years on digs throughout Kansas, sponsored by the Kansas Anthropological Association. She also participated in digs at a slave quarters in Tennessee, and a dinosaur find in Montana. One of her greatest pleasures in life was a chai latte at Metro Coffee Shop in Hutchinson. She loved to be included in any activity possible with her kids and grandkids.  She was the kindest, most loving, and compassionate person we have ever known. 

Memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Elliott chapel, with Reverend Kim Biery officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
