Cruz Apalonia Marquez, 88, of Hutchinson, died November 20, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born May 3, 1936, in Dodge City, to Antonio H. and Lus (Perez) Flores.

Cruz was the first and original cook at Anchor Inn Mexican Restaurant and worked there for over 30 years. She also was an attendant at Econowash Laundromat for over 30 years. Cruz was known by everyone as an avid bingo player and was gifted lottery tickets when she was no longer able to make it to bingo. Her greatest joy in life was her family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and there was never a shortage of homemade tortillas. Cruz was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

On June 29, 1957, she married Tony L. Marquez, in Hutchinson. They shared 58 years of marriage before his death on August 5, 2015.

Cruz is survived by: her children, Susan Cintron and husband Miguel of Omaha, NE, Tony Marquez Jr. and wife Deb of Wichita, John Marquez and wife Mae of Hutchinson, Gary Marquez and wife Kathy of Hutchinson, Elaine Marquez of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda Vieyra, Antonio Flores Jr. and wife Rachel, Daniel Flores and wife Carol, Larry Flores and companion Connie Johnson, Gregory Flores Sr. and wife Susan, Jane Amaya and husband Santos, Delores “Lola” Flores and Cynthia “Cindy” Flores, Rosie Landron; and numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; grandson, Miguel H. Cintron Jr.; brother, Gary Allen Flores; and sister, Celsa Flores.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
