Sex offender identified as Kansas City homicide victim

KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement investigating another homicide in Kansas City continue working to determine how the victim identified as 41-year-old Adam Copeland died.

Just after 9pm Tuesday, police responded to an apartment in the 2500 block of Benton in Kansas City, Missouri, on an EMS call.

The caller saw a person in a neighboring apartment who appeared to be injured and needed medical attention. On arrival officers were led to an apartment inside the building where they located Copeland unresponsive with unknown injuries. Officers called for EMS who responded and rendered aid before ultimately declaring him deceased at the scene.

Based on the preliminary circumstances Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide. They will be working with crime scene investigators to gather evidence and canvass for any witnesses

Detectives will also work with medical examiners to determine cause and manner of death. Copeland has been listed as a sex offender after two convictions in Illinois for unlawful restraint, attempted criminal sexual assault by force, according to the Missouri Sex Offender Registry.
