Sheriff's officers make arrest after late night chase

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 55-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested on March 8, after leading Reno County Sheriff’s office on a low-speed chase through Hutchinson.  

At approximately 9:55 p.m., Reno County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to a stolen tag on a vehicle traveling east on 4th Ave. around K-14.  

When a traffic stop was initiated near 4th and Hendricks, the driver of the suspect vehicle pulled over and waited for the deputy to approach before driving off.  

The chase went east on 4th Ave., then north on Severance St. The suspect vehicle then turned west on 11th Ave., then north on Plum St.  

According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, while driving through Hutchinson there was very minimal traffic and the speed of the vehicle was considered low-speed.  

The primary deputy pursuing the vehicle conducted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention south of 56th Ave. on Plum St. Ultimately, the vehicle went over the curb and stopped just before the roundabout. 

The driver was taken into custody without incident.  

The car was confirmed stolen out of Andover, Kansas. The tag was confirmed stolen out of Wichita, Kansas.  

A substance believed to be methamphetamine was found in the car.  

The driver is being charged with possession of opiates with two or more priors, possession of paraphernalia, felony possession of stolen property, felony flee and elude, felony interference, driving while suspended, and illegal display.  

 “Charges are based on the probable cause at the time and [the suspect] is not guilty of the charges until convicted in a court of law,” The Reno County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
