Sterling College Symphonic band to host concert

STERLING, Kan. (AP) — The Sterling College Symphonic Band will take the stage Sunday afternoon for a concert featuring music by three celebrated composers, joined by guest performers from the Wichita Choral Society.

The performance will highlight works by Gustav Holst, John Rutter and Leonard Bernstein, including Holst’s “Mars” and “Jupiter” from “The Planets,” Rutter’s “Gloria,” and selections from Bernstein’s “Mass.”

Members of the Wichita Choral Society will collaborate with the Sterling College Band for the program. Guest vocalists Katelyn Mattson and Sean Foster will perform with the combined ensemble on Bernstein’s “Mass.”

The concert also will feature harpist Camden Hyder and organist Alejandro Avila.

The performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus. The concert will be livestreamed on the SCMusic Facebook page.
