The Hutchinson Public Library will offer the public a chance to purchase artwork from its collection during a special art auction on Saturday, June 27.
The auction begins at 11 a.m., with doors opening at 9 a.m. for artwork viewing and bidder registration. The event is free and open to the public.
Selected pieces from the library's collection will be available for bidding as part of an effort to make room for new additions by emerging Kansas artists. Library officials said the auction is part of a broader initiative to refresh the collection with new artists, mediums and subject matter that reflect the evolving creative landscape across the state.
Artwork included in the auction has been chosen through a careful evaluation process designed to identify pieces that could be removed while maintaining the quality of the library's collection.
The art is on display on the library's first floor, allowing visitors to preview the items before the auction. Library officials encourage prospective bidders to view the artwork in person, noting that colors and fine details may not be accurately represented in digital images.
Proceeds from the auction will be used to purchase new artwork for the library's circulating collection, giving patrons the opportunity to check out and enjoy works created by today's Kansas and Heartland artists.
The Hutchinson Public Library's circulating art collection allows patrons to borrow original works of art much like they would a book, providing access to local and regional artists while bringing artwork into homes throughout the community.
