HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The momentous 1954 Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case dismantled racial segregation in public schools. Yet, the segregation experienced by Mexican and Mexican American students is often overlooked. This presentation looks at the ways the Latino communities banded together to fight discrimination and demand equal protection under the law, focusing special attention on Kansas examples.
Hutchinson Public Library will host Valerie Mendoza for a presentation and discussion of “Beyond Brown: Mexican Struggle for Equality Before and After Brown V. Board,” on Wednesday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. in Meeting Room 1 on the second floor.
Members of the community are invited to attend this free program!
Contact the Hutchinson Public Library at 620-663-5441 for more information. The program is made possible by Humanities Kansas.
