After pleading guilty to attempted murder and aggravated burglary, a 24-year-old Stillwell, Kansas, man will serve more than eight years in prison.
John Douglas Jones broke into the residence of a woman he knew brandishing a knife on Aug. 22, 2020, in Hays.
According to police, after breaking into the residence Jones attacked two people inside. During the attack, both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Jones also sustained injuries to his face and a large cut to his lower leg.
In July, Jones pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated burglary in Ellis County District Court. All three are felonies.
According to Ellis County Attorney Robert Anderson, Jones was sentenced Oct. 11 to a total of 100 months in prison.
Jones will also be subject to 36-months of post-release and 15-years of registration as a violent offender.
