
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An annual survey from a consumer bill paying service shows that most residents of Hutchinson pay above the national average for their monthly utility bills. Doxo Consumer Services released its yearly report of the cost of living for the county. The study breaks down the ten most common monthly bills including rent and mortgages, insurance, cable TV and mobile phone, among others.
The study shows that Hutchinson residents pay an average of $348 per month for utilities compared with the national average of $328. The city was also at the national average for monthly car loan payments at $444 per month. Hutchinson residents also pay life insurance premiums that are higher than the national average at $93 per month.
The study showed that city residents pay less than the national average in rent and mortgage payments, health insurance, cable TV, and mobile phones.
The average monthly bill for a resident of Hutchinson is about $1,514 per month. In the area, McPherson had the highest monthly bill average at $1,687. Newton, Wichita and Derby were also higher than Hutchinson. Only Great Bend was lower in the area of like-cities. Hutchinson is also below the state average for monthly bills — $1,720 per month.
Overall, Hutchinson residents average monthly bills are about 25% below the national average of $2,003.
