Gabriel S. Salzman, 81, of McPherson, KS, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024 at Via Christi St.Francis in Wichita, KS.
Gabriel was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 26, 1942, the son of Saul and Henrietta Salzman.
Gabriel attended grade schools and graduated high school in New York at the age of 15. He then attended NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, Cal Poly, UCLA, University of Southern California (USC), and Hahnemann Medical University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). He had Masters Degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering, and he had almost completed his doctorate in Mathematics (he only needed his thesis).
Through the years Gabriel worked as a Vice President of a computer company in Southern California and worked in the Department of Defense before going back to school to become an Orthopedic Surgeon.
He completed his Medical Degree and residency in Orthopedic Surgery before opening his first practice in Folsom, CA. He practiced orthopedic surgery and sports medicine in several states, and his last position was at the VA Hospital in Tucson, AZ, working exclusively with veterans. He paid for all of his education himself, with a combination of scholarships and work, usually working full time while also taking more than a full time load at school.
Gabriel enjoyed all animals (especially his Irish Wolfhounds, English Mastiffs, and Merlin theyellow-naped Amazon parrot), computers and programming, bridge, chess, reading, his grandchildren, and spending time with his friends and family.
Gabriel Salzman was united in marriage to Gloria Evangeline Davidson on June 11, 1966 in Culver City, California. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Gloria Salzman, of McPherson, KS; his daughter Catherine Martin (Marc), of McPherson, KS, and sister-in-law Thea Davidson, of Pacific Palisades, California. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Michae lChristian Martin and Jackson Pierce Martin.
Gabriel was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, and a sister.
A celebration of life will be held at Glidden-Ediger Wiggins Chapel in McPherson, KS on March 28, 2024 from 6-8PM.
